The legacies of Burt Bacharach, Henry Mancini and The Carpenters permeate intensively throughout this collection. The Navin brothers concoct musical trinkets that are velvety and evocative in their instrumentation and vocal delivery. However, any illusions of aesthetic naïvité are shelved by the more adult and worldly-wise lyrics which, when offset against the occasional incorporation of cheesier instrumental references to '80s pop, provide this duo with an easy-listening vocabulary all of their own.

"Quantum" was spliced together by Basil using jazz, field recordings (animals, insects, trams), his wife and Autistic children. It's all based on Basil's theories of sound, and that when you slow down or speed up sound, you open up new doors, and new sound is revealed. Considering this recording was made circa 1973, one cannot underestimate the true genius and musical foresite of the man.

Reset EP, Mute Math offers a fresh spin on a classic sound, starting with the anthemic rock of The Police and U2, and then layering it with modern electronic techniques and vintage keyboards. They're not the first to blend an organic band sound with computers, as anyone who's heard '90s band Jesus Jones or today's The Killers can attest, but Mute Math sure does it well.
